Overcoming earth: because the picture plane remains completely flat and immaterial, the heavy, haptic principle of earth is entirely dissolved — form arises here purely through light and colour. The fluid medium of water: the masterfully painted colour space simulates a deep, fluid mass. The face floats optically in the space, like a body far below a still, clear surface of water. Atmospheric air: without haptic barriers the picture reads as purely atmospheric and intangible, like the element of air — the face appears as a vision in fog, or in the blue of the sky. Energetic fire: for all its delicate blues, the optical layering holds the transformative power of fire. It activates the viewer's eye and turns looking into a dynamic process of search.
