The end of the world, or the beginning of everything?
A mixture of raw nature, remoteness, adventure and the sense of setting out is what makes Ushuaia so particular. I still cannot quite explain what drew me in so completely. The town itself is small, there are not many sights to see. But that is not what it is about here. Ushuaia is a feeling. A place where you pause. A place where you watch the ships, feel the wind and notice how small you actually are.
The exhibition is magnificent; the hanging of the works was carried out by the curator with the museum assistants. On the evening of the opening the Museo Marítimo was full, a great deal going on, and the mood was quite wonderful. Many local people were not going to miss it. On the days that followed there were a great many Americans who had come ashore from their expedition ships.
