The artist Christian Franz Joseph König from Perchtoldsdorf has received the commission for an installation within the exhibition “cum tempore” at the technology centre in Maribor. The exhibition opens on Friday 5 October 2012 at 5 p.m. at Betnava Castle in Maribor. Maribor, European Capital of Culture 2012, has long had a considerable creative potential.
CFJ König explains his installation “Timeless Worldmusic”: “With this installation I want to call to mind the timeless primal sound of the world. Every viewer is asked to move the large sphere; through its swing it strikes the gong, which in turn adds its own part. Every viewer is actively called on to become part of this installation — to take the deep note of G into themselves and let it work in the body. One strike on the gong, and the vibration seems to continue endlessly, penetrating everything, touching everything.”
The expression “cum tempore” comes from Latin and means literally “with time”. It denotes the academic custom, above all at universities, of a lecture beginning fifteen minutes “late”, so that students and professors have time to prepare for a new class. “Cum tempore” was prepared “with time”, which is why the exhibition in front of Betnava Castle in Maribor devotes itself to various aspects of time and its influence on culture, politics and relations between people.
