Perro sin pelo del Perú
Pigments & acrylic resin on canvas · 100x80cm/1996
In the Inca empire and in the far older pre-Inca cultures, the Perro sin pelo del Perú — the Peruvian hairless dog — held a deeply spiritual, medicinal and practical role. It was not regarded as an ordinary domestic animal but revered as a sacred and inviolable being: a healer, and a faithful companion in the afterlife.
