Mixtec
Pigments & acrylic resin on canvas · 80x100cmm/1996
In the shaded valleys of Oaxaca, where the clouds kiss the peaks, the inheritance of the Mixtec sleeps. On this canvas stirs the face of a people who called themselves Ñuu Savi — the children of the rain. The face looks at us as though pressed from the moist red clay of the mountain forests. It is the imperishable echo of a primal culture, reminding us that we, exactly like this face, are woven of dust and memory.
