Guardians of the invisible threads: they flew soundlessly and defenceless — without a sting — through the dense green, and yet the survival of the forest hung on them. They upheld the sacred balance by bringing the plant world into bloom. The Inca saw in them a symbol of working in silence: tiny creatures accomplishing the greatest wonder of nature without violence.
