The Death of Flowers
Pigments & acrylic resin on canvas · 120x100cm/1997
An honourable death on the battlefield or through sacrifice counted among the Aztecs as a privileged passage. The fallen warrior was not regarded as finally lost but taken up into the sphere of the sun god Huitzilopochtli. Death thus became not an end but the highest form of veneration, and a return into the cosmic order.
