Whoever has conquered the dizzying steps hewn into the bare rock stands above the clouds and looks down with the eyes of a condor onto the masterpiece of the Inca. Far below rests Machu Picchu — a filigree mosaic of stone palaces, sacred temples and emerald terraces, nestled gently against the back of the mountains.
