Good girls go to heaven, bad girls go everywhere. Inner heat and friction: the dense, burning rust orange together with the restless scratch marks conveys a sense of permanent friction, of inner heat and rebellion. The picture denies the eye the sterile, smooth calm of a supposed “heaven”. What it celebrates instead is the raw, imperfect, vital materiality of earthly, unadapted being — full of movement, of layers, of lived traces.
