Existential burial and suffocation: the pervasive, dense weave of earth tones and mossy green, closing inexorably around the lighter centres, carries a sense of loss, isolation and of being buried alive. The feeling of being “spilled”, buried under, is translated in purely material terms — a state in which one's own self, a thought or a vital impulse (the green circles) lies buried under a hundredweight of time, matter or outward circumstance, visibly gasping for air.
