The nude is embedded here, quite literally, in a flaming bed of pigment. The dense crimson and terracotta tones are broken inside the contours of the body by lighter ochres and yellows. Out of that comes an inner glow: the body does not read as painted flat but radiates a physical warmth that lifts it sculpturally from the darker, speckled surroundings.
